About Whey Protein
Q. What is whey protein?
A. It is a complete and efficient protein naturally found in milk.
Q. Why has whey protein been called nature’s perfect protein?
A. It provides all the amino acids in the right proportions for your body’s healthy growth and maintenance.
Q. How is whey protein obtained?
A. Whey protein is found in milk. When milk is used to make cheese, “whey” is left behind. The highly valuable whey protein is removed from the whey and purified.
Q. What is a complete protein?
A. It has ALL the key amino acids, called essential amino acids, for your body’s healthy growth and maintenance.
Q. How much protein do I need?
A. The FDA has established the Daily Value of protein for adults at 50g based on a 2,000-calorie diet. This reflects the minimum amount, not necessarily optimal amount, of protein needed for tissue maintenance. Protein needs vary by person depending on age, sex, activity level and overall health.
Q. How can whey protein change body composition?
A. Emerging science has shown that diets incorporating whey protein may not only aid weight loss, but also help specifically reduce inches around the waist better than diets incorporating alternatives like soy protein.
Q. Is whey protein safe / can you consume too much?
A. Whey protein is safe and has been apart of the human diet for centuries. Any protein consumed at extreme levels can lead to increased health risks. These levels are vastly higher than the average American diet. It has been concluded that the average person can safely eat 3-4 times the current DV for protein.
Q. Is whey protein just for professional athletes and body builders?
A. No, it’s for all people who need protein, which is everyone! Nutritionally, whey protein is one of the best proteins you can choose (more details)
Q. Why is Better Whey of Life™ yogurt considered a “super yogurt”?
A. Better Whey of Life yogurt is a “super yogurt” because of its remarkable and sound nutritional profile. Not only is it enriched with 10-12 g of whey protein but is loaded with other benefits. It is nonfat, all-natural, and contains a total of 15g of protein, and 1/3 less sugar than the leading yogurt. Better Whey of Life yogurt also features probiotics and a good source of prebiotic fiber. On top of that, it tastes great too!
Q. Can whey protein help me lose weight?
A. Studies have found that whey protein can enhance weight loss efforts and there are still other studies in progress today. Individuals who combined a reduced calorie diet with high protein foods rich in leucine (a BCAA), like whey protein, experienced greater weight loss than dieting alone. When adding exercise to both diets, the leucine rich diet resulted in even greater fat loss and more lean muscle was retained. In sufficient quantities, whey protein can also provide a satiety effect, or a feeling of fullness to help reduce the desire for between meal snacking.
Q. How do athletes and people who exercise benefit from whey protein?
A. It helps tone, build, and repair muscle quickly and efficiently. Thus, they often report improved strength and performance.
Q. How does whey protein compare to other proteins?
A. It is simply the best protein since it is complete, efficiently used by the body, and contains the most Branched Chain Amino Acids.
Q. Is there a difference between whey protein concentrate and isolate?
A. Whey protein isolate contains 90% or more protein. Whey protein concentrate typically has between 25% and 89% protein depending upon the product.
Q. What are some other emerging benefit areas for whey protein?
A. There are many exciting benefit areas being researched today. Some of those include: reducing blood pressure, reducing the risks of diabetes, slowing the natural muscle loss that occurs with aging, preventing bone loss, and its role as an antioxidant / immunity enhancer.
Q. What are Branched Chain Amino Acids?
A. Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA’s) are specific amino acids that provide an important energy source for muscle during exercise and also serve as a critical regulator of muscle protein synthesis during recovery. There are 3 branched chain amino acids, leucine, isoleucine and valine.

Q. How is whey protein superior to other protein sources?
A. Common forms of protein include red meat, poultry, dairy products, or eggs, and while these products are an important source of protein, our yogurt is made with whey protein. Whey protein contains the highest concentration of the essential amino acids your body needs that it can’t manufacture on its own. And since our yogurt is nonfat and reduced sugar, you get a superior protein without the saturated fat that you would get in meat, higher fat dairy, or eggs.

Q. How much whey protein do other yogurts have?
A.Typical yogurts have 0-2g of whey protein. In the case of Greek Yogurts, the whey is strained out of the yogurt, nearly eliminating this wonderful nutrient. Other “American Style” yogurts have 1-2g of whey protein. Milk and yogurt typically contain two types of protein: casein and whey. Casein is 80% of the protein in milk and Whey is 20%. So Better Whey of Life™ Yogurts have 3X more protein than the leading yogurt and 10X more whey protein.
Q. How is Better Whey of Life Yogurt™ flavored?
A. We begin with the all natural plain yogurt or base yogurt and blend in a variety of real fruits, depending on the flavor, as well as natural cane sugar to make our yogurt not only healthy, but delicious!
Q. Is “plain” simply the name for natural yogurt flavoring or does this include any additional flavoring?
A. Our “plain” flavor captures the natural flavor of yogurt and does not include any added natural sugar, natural flavorings, or fruit. This results in a product with additional protein and no added sugar. The sugars on the label represent the sugars that are naturally occurring in the milk.
Q. Why does the “plain” flavor possess an extra 2 grams of protein compared to the fruit and vanilla flavors?
Q. What is acai and where does it come from?
A. Acai is a fruit native to the tropical regions of Central and South America and grows in acai palms often located in swamps or floodplains. The acai berry is a flavorful fruit and is renown for its high antioxidants and fiber.
Q. What fruits are included in the “acai mixed berry” flavor?
